What is chlamydia?

Chlamydia is a common sexually transmitted infection (STI) that can be spread through oral, vaginal or anal sex. It is caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis. It often shows no symptoms, but when present, symptoms can include painful urination, genital pain and discharge. It is easily treated with antibiotics, typically azithromycin or doxycycline.
