What is menarche?

Menarche is the first menstruation or periods an individual experiences. It can also be defined as the start of an individual's menstruation. This typically happens between the age of 12-15. It takes a couple of months for the body to regulate the menstrual cycle and its common to have irregular period and flow in the initial months.
