What is a vagina?

The vagina is a muscular canal connecting the cervix and the vaginal opening. It is located between the urethra and the anus. For people who are born with a vagina, it is referred to as a natal vagina and for those who undergo gender affirming surgery, it is referred to as a neo vagina. Natal vaginal walls are elastic, allowing expansion during sexual arousal and childbirth. The natal vagina also facilitates menstrual blood flow and childbirth. Neo vaginas are constructed through a variety of surgical procedure and are very similar to natal vaginas in shape but need to be dilated regularly to prevent narrowing.
