What is menopause?

Menopause is a medical term used for when a person experiences their last period. This happens because people are born with a set of eggs. A typical age when a person experiences menopause is around 40 years of age. However, it is normal if it happens earlier or later than age 40.

The body experiences a lot of changes during, before and after menopause because of the change in hormone levels in the body. Sometimes people can experience early menopause when their ovaries are surgically removed, like in the case of a hysterectomy.
